Simple Suede

February 20th, 2010

Good afternoon!!  What a week!!  I’m sorry for being a slack blogger this last wee while.  I’ve been up to my eyeballs in fundraiser and children being ill and all manner of things that are life!!  But!  I am here now for a brief moment!

This afternoon I’ve had a chance to do some creating in the peace of a silent house.  Hubby has taken the three big kids to visit family and it’s just Lara May & I.  Lara has been napping on and off which has given me some time to do some {very} much needed stamping for fun!  On my upline Alisa’s forum there was a cyberstamp and one of the challenges was Clean & Simple.  Another was Faux Suede.   I am LOVING what I created.  I don’t say that much, but I really really love these cards.  LOVE THEM.   Wanna see?

Ok, so I’m in a chatty mood so you’re gonna get the whole story.  Just skip text and look at purty pics if you’re in a hurry!!  LOL

So first of all what IS clean & simple?  Minimal layering.  Minimal embellishments.  Uncluttered, lots of white space.  Able to be reproduced quickly.  Err. Can I pull that off??  Hmmmn.  Not sure (oh yeah, we already know I did, but just humour me ‘kay?).  I knew I wanted to do the suede look on the clean and simple.  Two birds, one stone and all that.  I needed to maximise play on limited time.  What’s Faux Suede? It’s where you use a bone folder over and over your piece of cardstock until the layers separate.  When you pull them apart you get the suede effect.  Noice eh?

I started by stamping the damask design from Friends 24-7 onto Whisper White Cardstock in chocolate.  I used Baja Breeze for the strip of suede and the sentiment and label are from the very lovely Vintage Labels set you can get for FREE with Sale-a-bration (go on ask me how!).  I punched out the sentiment with the mega oval punch and sponged the edges in Baja.  I loved the result so much I decided to whip up a whole bunch more.  But when I went to stamp I put the damask stamp into the Baja pad.  Ooops.  Oh! Actually, that looks kinda cool too.  So out came the chocolate strips and I sueded them up too.  In the end I had 3 with the Baja damasks & 3 with Chocolate Chip.  A set!!

An the two different ones together:

And just to be different I then made this one with a Baja Breeze base.  Choc Chip damask design and the Choc Chip Suede strip.  The others I will bundle up in a nice white bag with some envelopes stamped with the damask design, and a bit of  Baja or Chocolate ribbon wrapped around it.  The card below will be the one I write in to say thanks to one of the loveliest Mums from school who makes my family a meal every time my Lara is sick.  How nice is that?  So there you have it.  A clean and simple gift!!  In under an hour.   Love it!

Until next time!
Happy Stamping!
